It would be something if the computer of every small business owner were equipped with an odometer. This way, you could accurately gauge the speed with which you careen through websites on everything from marketing strategies to how to reload the cartridge on your office computer. But speed is merely an entertaining piece of information compared to the one you may need most: the location of the bookmarks you created as you raced through the internet universe. Assuming you “flagged” them properly in Mozilla Firebox, you have to undertake a bit of a search-and-discovery mission for your Firefox profile folder – a process that Mozilla has put in place for your own protection.
Make a Bookmark Properly
Just like the paper bookmarks that some people still use to mark the location where they should resume reading a hard-copy book, Mozilla bookmarks are designed to help you quickly return to a favorite website or webpage. Put first things by double-checking that you know how to make bookmarks correctly:
- Click on the star in the address bar of the website or page you wish to save. The star should turn blue. Then a window will pop up so you can name or move the bookmark.
- If you don’t see the star in the address bar, click on the group of three dots in the address bar, which is known as the “three-dot menu.” Right-click on “Bookmark this Page.” Then click “Add to Address Bar.”
Sidestep the Firefox Profile Folder
The fastest way for any speed demon to retrieve a bookmark is to simply start typing the name in the address bar. This seems logical for sites that you visit frequently and so are well-known to you or for sites that impressed you with their catchy or provocative names.
In these cases, with each new letter you type, a list of the webpages you’ve bookmarked will appear with a star next to them. Click on the page you want. You will be “driven” there immediately.
Find Your Firefox Bookmarks Folder
Of course, it would be ideal if you could remember even the first few letters of every webpage you’ve bookmarked. You can see how little time it takes to return to them. Problems surface when you’ve stored dozens or even hundreds of bookmarks or cannot remember the name of a website or webpage for the life of you.
For cases like these, the Firefox profile folder is your destination of choice. Stored separately from Firefox, it may initially strike you as a nuisance. In fact, the folder ensures that if Firefox ever crashes or disappears, information that is valuable to you and your business will be preserved. Its presence also means that this information will remain safe if you ever have to uninstall or reinstall Firefox.
To reveal your profile:
- On the menu button, click “Help” and then “Troubleshooting Information.” A tab will open.
- Click on “Open Folder” under the “Application Basics” section. Your Firefox profile folder will open.
Where Is The Firefox Favorites Folder Located
This folder will disclose far more than the bookmarks that were previously hidden on your computer; think of it as a Mozilla Firefox favorites location reservoir, containing information such as:
- Browsing history
- Cookies
- DOM storage
- Downloads
- Passwords
- User preferences
It may be worthwhile to make these other “pit stops,” too. You’re likely to find something you can update to make life in the small business fast lane more efficient.
