The launcher is equipped with all available versions of the game developers, at any time, you will be able to install one of them, even the newest Minecraft version 1.13.2. They had not made any changes, all files are downloaded from the server developers, and that means you get perfectly clean Minecraft. All twitch does is tell the minecraft launcher which modpack it should run. I took down the downloads a while back due to a disagreement.

First fact: The twitch launcher is garbage. No need to rehash all the reasons why (as I write this it's downloading and installing 150 mb worth of updates for crap I'll never use). Second fact: The twitch launcher isn't even a launcher, it's a launcher-launcher. I.e. it doesn't even launch minecraft, it launches the minecraft launcher. All twitch does is tell the minecraft launcher which modpack it should run by editing a single text file. Good news though, you can set it up so even that is unnecessary.

This only works for opening modpacks. If you want to download new ones or update them or whatever else, you'll need twitch for that and you'll probably have to redo some of this afterward. Also, this is for Windows but I assume you can do something similar on Mac.

• Step 1 - Find the folder with the minecraft launcher in it. Documents/Curse/Minecraft/Install is the default on windows I believe, it should look like this. The file 'launcher_profiles.json' is what the twitch launcher edits before running minecraft.exe.

• Step 2 - If you only care about using one modpack, run it once through Twitch then skip to Step 5. Otherwise for each modpack you want to be able to run, launch it through twitch (getting to the minecraft launcher is enough, you don't need to actually run it), then open launcher_profiles.json and copy the part highlighted here into a blank text file somewhere. Be careful to get exactly the lines in the yellow box.

• Step 3 - You should have a text file with a bunch of blocks of text that look like the highlighted part in the last picture. In every block except the last one put a comma after the '}' that's at the end on its own line. Copy everything from this text file and paste it over the part you copied out of launcher_profiles.json. The result should look like this.

• Step 4 - From the Curse folder double click minecraft.exe. It should open the minecraft launcher just as if you'd gone through twitch and let you select modpacks from the dropdown menu. If you mess up and accidentally add or delete extra lines or mess up the commas when you are editing, the minecraft launcher will be very angry. If you can figure out what's wrong just fix the file and try running minecraft.exe again, otherwise go back to the twitch launcher and start over.

• Step 5Windows 10 limited wifi connection. - Right click minecraft.exe and create a shortcut, then put it on the desktop or start menu or whatever. Then from now on use that instead of the twitch launcher.

If you later open a modpack through twitch the launcher_profiles.json file will be overwritten and you'll have to redo any edits, so you should make a backup of your edited version so when that happens you can copy the profiles for the unchanged modpacks into the new launcher_profiles.json without having to open them all up again. If you only use one modpack there's no reason to bother with that, though.
